Principle 1: The Happiness Advantage

The first principle of happiness is the happiness advantage. Achor describes this as the way that the prick Iole teaches us to rewire our brain in order to “capitalize on positivity and improve our productivity and performance.” The author goes on to explain how many people believe, and are taught to believe, that our success leads to our happiness, however it is the other way around. Our happiness determines our success, our productivity and performance. A person does not have to be happy all the time, although that would be a good thing, but bursts of happiness lead to more successful results. Happiness has many different meanings, but it varies according to different people and their experiences. These bursts of happiness can be caused by anything. It can be caused by something as little as a compliment, a piece of candy, a funny video, or a phone call to a friend. Achor also gives a list of things which someone can do in order to have a more positive mindset and gain the most from the happiness advantage. A mojo rift of the time, people are so focused on what they are doing. Sometimes they hype themselves up by worrying and thinking about everything that could go wrong. Instead of doing that, it would be more beneficial to think of something or do something that makes them happy. I feel that this is something that I need to work on. Before tests and presentations, I worry and get psyched out because of how nervous I am, and think about how badly things could turn out. I will try to think happy thoughts before I do anything. In order to do this, I will have to not stress out so much about assignments, tests and presentations. Procrastinating less and rewarding myself for my work will help me achieve this.
